Music has the power to express ideas and beliefs that might not be fully articulated or understood in other forms of media. When Schopenhauer said: “The effect of music is so very much more powerful and penetrating than is that of the other arts, for these others speak only of the shadow, but music of the essence.” he was observing that that while other art forms, such as visual arts and literature, only offer a representation of the world, music speaks directly to the meat of life and the human experience.
In his view, other arts only provide a shadow or reflection of reality, while music has the ability to transcend the physical world and speak to the core of the human soul. How then do musicians, in particular, use the power of their medium to defend and celebrate their values?
If the culture is avante-garde, and if great art and meaning transcend politics and social trends, how then can one imbue a sense of "rightism" into music which is so easily and naturally gravitated towards radical social ideas? How can we have strength and resilience in the face of a cultural climate that can often feel hostile to conservative, religious, or traditional perspectives?
Conservatives (for lack of a better word) have been doing a pretty good job providing an alternative to the liberal dominated mainstream media. This can be seen in the popularity of their podcasts. Their networks not only provides a source of entertainment, but also helps to counteract the negative and often unfair portrayal of conservative values in the mainstream media.
So let this be a rally call to all conservative media outlets: it is time to stand up and support the conservative musicians who are making a difference in our cultural landscape! These artists are using their talents to spread the message of freedom, personal responsibility, and traditional values.
